Acuvue Oasys Transitions

Playing a little golf at the Johnson & Jonhson Institute with the Acuvue Oasys Transitions contact lens with Light Intelligent Technology.

I was honored to be a part of the faculty for this event and enjoyed educating doctors on the benefits and characteristics of this lens. It’s such a cool new technology and so fun to talk about!

It was fun seeing so many friends and making new ones too!

Fun Facts about the Acuvue Oasys Transitions contact lens with Light Intelligent Technology:

-Blocks up to 70% of UV light when in its activated state and this lens is always on so it blocks up to 15% of high energy blue light indoors as well

-it takes 60 seconds to darken and 90 seconds to return back to normal

-It does darken you eyes and its more noticeable on lighter colored eyes but it doesn’t make you look like a zombie.

disclosure- I am a speaker with J&J but was not paid for this post

One of my Favorite Eyeliners

One of my Favorite Eyeliners

Make up can be the culprit to dry or irritated eyes. Mascara, eyeliner pencil, and loose powder can easily get in the tears and along the eye lid margin causing discomfort and time after time leading to chronic dry eye. I recommend a felt tip eye liner opposed to a pencil because the pigment stays on the eyelid better and doesn’t get into your eyes as the day goes on. Remember to never use eyeliner on your water line. Makeup can be irritating, but it does not always have to be if you are using the right products. Purchase one of my favorite eyeliners here.

Mirrored Lenses

Brown_Family-0063.jpg

I am obsessed with mirror coatings on sunglasses. The blue really pops in the snow and is good for summer time too by the pool. Plus, people can't see your eyes so you can stare if you want to! (hehe) These frames are by Diff Eyewear; they have stylish frames with most come polarized and they have a great business model of giving back to those in need of glasses and vision care.

After going through optometry school and learning all about optics I like to make standard sunglasses super functional by customizing lenses for them. These have hoya polarized brown lenses that are good for driving and everyday outdoor activities with a back side anti reflective coating. Now these lenses will block out more light then the stock lenses they came with. Once you have good sunglasses with good optics you won’t ever be able to go back!

Did you know blinking exercises are a thing?

Blinking your eyes plays a very important part in keeping your eyes from drying out and helps with focusing. Lots of times when we are concentrating or spending lots of time on a computer we forget to blink. This can cause your eyes to dry out and lead to blurred vision for a couple of seconds until you blink again. So what can you do? You can use a good artificial tear like, refresh optic advanced, and do blinking exercises.

Blinking exercises:

  • Every 5-10 minutes while doing tasks that require lots of concentration like studying or working on a computer make a conscious effort to remember to blink.
  • Make 3 good complete and strong blinks by blinking, squeezing and keeping eyes closed immediately after for 1-2 seconds. This allows the tears to coat your eye well and the little glands along your eyelids will produce more of the oily layer of the tear film.

Do you put your eye liner on your water line?

Did you know that applying eye liner, foundation, powder, moisturizers etc. to the "water line" at the margin of your eye lids can cause dry eye and irritation? There are little glands in this area of your eye lid that secrete the oily layer of the tear film and by blocking them with makeup may cause red, dry, and irritated eyes. You can still wear eye liner just put it slightly below your lash line.

Do you have tired eyes after looking at a computer screen all day?

DSC_1808+copy.jpg

People who look at a computer all day typically have a high incidence of dry eyes, headaches, and eye strain. The human eye does not focus on a light source, like a tablet or computer, the same way it does to a physical object like when reading a book. The muscles that help the lens of the eye focus are constantly working to focus with a light source versus when you look at an object. One way to help relieve some of these symptoms is to use the "20/20/20 rule"- every 20 minutes while looking at a computer look 20 feet away for 20 seconds and remember to blink. This will help relax your eyes and keep them from drying out.
